As some of you know, I love movies: everything from the silent era of film to the modern blockbusters. Also, I enjoy movies from around the world. All you have to do is look through the DVD collection in my office for evidence.
Once people realize that I am a cinephile, they start to ask what about my favorite films. My answer is that there are too many good films to come up with a short list. Further, I like different films for different reasons, and that makes it hard to compare them.
With the above caveats out of the way, I have decided to share my love of film with those of you who are interested through semimonthly “Dr. Wostenberg’s World of Cinema Reviews” articles on The Sideline. In each review I will have a short synopsis, my critique, and favorite scene from a selected film. Hopefully, these reviews will spark interest and discussion on the films.
Look for my first review on Friday, August 31st for The Conformist (Italian: Il Conformista) by Bernardo Bertolucci. To quote Bette Davis from All About Eve, “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.”
